Christopher Giede sent me the attached letter that was written by David Forbes (president of the Saskatoon Nature Society) to David Marit (minister of Highways for the Saskatchewan Government) regarding the potential Tamke highway and the response letter that was received from the Minister….interesting to note the Minister states that their department is not involved in the planning, funding, or development for the project and suggests that David contact the RMs for Corman Park and Dundurn. Also of interest – David cc’ed Hugh Gordon, the NDP shadow cabinet member for Highways but the Minister’s response did not include him back in his response. However, the Minister did cc the RMs of Corman Park and Dundurn and the Whitecap First Nations…..there are an increasing number of people and organizations that are aware of the opposition and activities relating to the project. David Forbes authorized the distribution of these letters to the Hamlet.
One item that would be good to determine – it has been asked whether either the Salvation Army Camp or the Brightwater Centre have been granted a Conservation Easement for their properties. Given that the Brightwater Centre site was received/purchased/granted by Saskatoon Public Schools from the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation in 1997, there is a high probability that an easement exists as one the SWF mandates is the acquisition of habitat land for sustaining wildlife. This type of easement would make it difficult (or impossible) to route the highway over the river. If anyone within the Hamet know a contact at either site, it maybe worthwhile to determine this information. It is also interesting to note that the Brightwater Centre has a prime focus on honoring Indigenous perspectives, content, and ceremonies. This link below goes to the lead page for the site:
The link for interesting reading about the vision for the facility and makes one wonder why the Whitecap First Nation would want to destroy this opportunity, considering that the WFN and the Saskatoon Public School Division signed an alliance agreement in 2014 to support inspired learning..
Finally, we still have a couple of invalid email addresses contained within our Hamlet list. We need an email for Stan & Linda Janzen and Adrian & Donna Cutler. Maybe someone can go see these people and get a valid email address. Additionally, our distribution list contains addresses for non-hamlet people as well as they are equally affected. It would be good to have addresses for everyone along Tamke Road, RR3054, and RR3055, and potentially highway 219. If you have any of these, please pass them along to me.
